Derivation of a Pressure Field and Fluid at Rest: ConcepTest and Example Problem

Try to answer this ConcepTest and solve this example problem before using this module. Studies show that trying to answer the questions before studying material improves learning and retention. By the end of this module, you should be able to answer these on your own. Answers will be given later in this module.

A practice problem for a Derivation of a Pressure Field and Fluid at Rest self study module.
Example Problem 1

Consider a closed tank that is partially filled with a fluid. The air pressure in the tank is 6 psi and the depth of the fluid is 10 ft. If the fluid is water (specific weight = 62.43 lbf/ft3), what is the pressure at the bottom of the tank in psi? Compare this to the pressure if the fluid is glycerin (specific weight = 78.6 lbf/ft3).
