Melting Ice Simulation
Description
This simulation compares the rate of energy transfer from heated metal blocks to ice water in two beakers, each under its own set of initial conditions. Click the green “Start” button to drop one or more hot metal blocks into beakers containing ice water. Select the appropriate radio button to plot the block(s) temperature and/or the mass of ice melted versus time. The number of blocks and their properties are adjusted with sliders. Checking “Add stir bar” increases the heat transfer rate. Once the ice fully melts, the energy goes into raising the water temperature. Beakers 1 and 2 can have different conditions. Adjust the number of blocks and their properties with sliders. To change initial conditions and start another experiment, press the Reset button.
