Raoult's Law and Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium: ConcepTest and Example Problem

Try to answer this ConcepTest and solve the example problem before using this module. Studies show that trying to answer the questions before studying material improves learning and retention. We suggest that you write down the reasons for your answers. By the end of this module, you should be able to answer these on your own. Answers will be given at the end of this module.

A practice problem for a Raoult's Law and Vapor Liquid Equilibrium Self Study Module

Calculate the bubble temperature at 85 kPa pressure for a binary liquid with
x1 = 0.40. The liquid solution is ideal. The saturation pressures are:

\[P^{sat} _1 = exp \left( 14.3\, -\, \frac{2945}{T+224} \right) \hspace{1cm} \]

\[P^{sat} _2 = exp \left( 14.2\, -\, \frac{2943}{T+209} \right) \hspace{5mm} \]

(temperature is in °C)
